The Two Rivers Child Psychiatric Program is designed to treat children, ages 5-12. These patients are experiencing serious behavioral, psychological, and/or cognitive disturbances. Such disturbances are often accompanied by an inability to function at home or school. |

Symptoms and indications of children experiencing mental health disorders
children may display any of the following: |

- Explosive, aggressive, or violent behaviors
- Prolonged periods of sadness or withdrawal
- Hyperactivity, anxiety, or panic
- Difficulty sleeping, paying attention, or learning
- Persistent nightmares
- Consistent bedwetting not attributable to a physical or learning problem
- Trauma resulting from emotional, physical, or sexual abuse
- Substance abuse

Two Rivers offers a comprehensive treatment approach that stabilizes acute child mental and behavioral psychiatric problems. Our multidisciplinary treatment team consists of psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, social workers, counselors, expressive therapists (recreation, music, and/or art), and case managers. This team provides the following services in a supportive, dedicated environment: |

- Crisis intervention, intensive assessment, acute care stabilization, and referral
- Evaluation, recommendation, and management of mental health medication
- Education and therapy groups that assists children in detecting inappropriate responses to stressors and developing resilient coping mechanisms to reduce negative behaviors
- Alcohol and drug use prevention that educates children to select healthy behaviors and helps them cope with negative and positive feelings such as anger, sadness, anxiety, frustration, boredom, happiness, reward, excitement, and peace.
- Experiential therapy services that guides children in developing recovery coping skills. Techniques include art, music, relaxation, stress management, and recreation.
- Comprehensive discharge planning and, where appropriate, referral to more intensive levels of treatment (residential treatment facilities) or less restrictive levels of care (partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, outpatient therapy/counseling, and outpatient psychiatric medication management)
- Family collaboration and discharge planning sessions informing family members of discharge planning recommendations and educating them regarding mental health disorders, clinical treatment, and healthy relationship building and repair
- If applicable, referral into the neurobehavioral program. Children suitable for this program must display patterns of aggressive behavior occurring with little or no provocation. Such behavior is unplanned and impulsive, without social or material gain. It is intense, destructive, and repetitive. The origin of the behavior is frequently due to brain dysfunction.

The Two Rivers Adolescent Program is designed to treat teens, ages 13-17. These patients are experiencing serious behavioral, psychological, cognitive and/or chemical abuse problems. Such disturbances are frequently characterized by problems in the family, home, school, and/or legal setting. |

Symptoms indicative of teens experiencing mental health and/or chemical abuse disorders include: |

- Severe defiance
- Repetitive anger outbursts
- Uncontrollable aggression with potential for injurious behaviors
- Depression, suicidal thoughts or behaviors
- Anxiety, panic, or psychosis
- Self-mutilating or cutting behaviors
- Sexually acting-out
- Social isolation and withdrawal
- Symptoms related to emotional, physical or sexual trauma
- Use, abuse, or dependency on drugs and alcohol
- Involvement with the legal court system
- School truancy and behavioral or learning difficulties

- Education and therapy groups that assist teens with anger management, self-esteem building, conflict resolution, and relationship building/management, communication skills, grief and loss, and resiliency coping mechanism development
- Alcohol and drug recovery groups that guide teens in developing lifelong skills
- Bio-psycho-social-spiritual lifestyle that supports recovery and avoidance of negative influences
- Experiential therapy services that assists children in developing recovery coping skills.
Recovery tools utilized include art, music, relaxation, stress management, and recreation.
- Comprehensive discharge planning and, when appropriate, referral to more intensive levels of treatment (residential treatment) or less restrictive levels of care (partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, outpatient therapy/counseling, and psychiatric-assisted medication management)
- Family collaboration and discharge planning sessions targeted towards informing family members of discharge planning recommendations, education regarding mental health disorders, substance use disorders, treatment planning, and healthy relationship building and repair
