Dual Diagnosis/Addiction (DDA) Program

 

At Two Rivers Hospital, adult chemical dependency and mental health disorders are treated as complex and interdependent.  This recovery process is a Dual Diagnosis approach.

   

Mental health disorders that co-exist with chemical dependency disorders include:

 
    • Mood: Major depressive and bipolar disorders

    • Anxiety: Generalized anxiety, panic, post traumatic stress (PTSD), phobia, conversion and obsessive compulsive disorders

    • Thought: Schizophrenia, schizoaffective, and psychotic disorders

    • Personality disorders
 
 

Multidisciplinary team members consists of psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, social workers, counselors, addiction counselors, expressive therapists (recreation, music, and/or art), and case managers.  This team provides dual diagnosis/addiction services within a supportive, dedicated environment. 

   

The Two Rivers Hospital’s multidisciplinary treatment team also develops individualized patient treatment plans.  A partial listing of additional services includes:

 
  • Crisis intervention, intensive assessment, acute care stabilization, and referral

  • Evaluations of and recommendations for mental health medication, anti-craving medication and medication-assisted drug and/or alcohol detoxification

  • Education and therapy groups designed to increase ones understanding of addiction as a brain disease and to identify the mental health disorders that negatively impact both the patient’s and their family’s bio-psycho-social-spiritual areas of life functioning.
     
  • Daily Twelve-Step programming geared towards teaching coping skills to manage symptoms of the diseases and result in balanced recovery lifestyles.

  • Experiential therapy services focused on developing coping skills.  Recovery tools utilized include art, music, relaxation, stress management, and recreation.

  • Comprehensive discharge planning and, when appropriate, referrals to more intensive levels of treatment.  Treatment options may consist of residential care or less restrictive levels of care such as partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, outpatient therapy/counseling, and/or psychiatric-assisted medication management.

  • Family discharge planning sessions targeted towards informing family members about discharge planning recommendations and providing education regarding chemical dependency and mental health disorders.
