Two Rivers Psychiatric Hospital - Dual Diagnosis/Addiction

At Two Rivers Hospital addiction and psychiatric/psychological problems are treated as complex and interdependent phenomena - a method we call Dual Diagnosis treatment.

An adult or adolescent experiencing repeated consequences of alcohol and/or drug abuse as well as symptoms or history of emotional, mental or psychological problems indicates the need for Dual Diagnosis treatment at Two Rivers.

Unique elements of Dual Diagnosis Treatment include:

  1. Separate adolescent and adult treatment programs.
  2. A true "hands on" multidisciplinary team approach. This includes psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed masters-level care managers, nurse therapists, addictions counselor/dual diagnosis therapists, expressive therapy clinicians (recreational, music, and/or art therapists), and an education therapist for adolescents. Clients have daily therapy sessions, seven days per week, with a variety of team members.
  3. Significant networking with family and referral professional before and after treatment design and in coordination with aftercare treatment.
  4. Twelve-Step programming designed to facilitate a deeper understanding of how the patient's dual diagnosis fits into a successful recovery model; clients attend a12-step group seven days per week.
  5. Intensive diagnosis evaluation and patient education geared towards teaching each participant the facts about the addiction as well as the psychiatric illness. Accurate diagnosis and patient education about the significance of the diagnostic assessment prevents relapses and potentially saves the lives of individuals who were in double trouble.
  6. Special individual attention as well as group work in a structured treatment program. The multidisciplinary team is experienced and innovative in their approach to helping individuals with special or unique treatment needs. Our patients are active participants in the dual diagnosis method of treatment. Special tracks for Trauma and/or Chronic pain may be implemented for patients who have these special needs.
