The Renaissance Program for
Older AdultsDuring each
generation of our lives, we face specific challenges. For older adults, these
challenges may include declining physical or mental capabilities, the loss of
lifetime companions, or the loss of independence. These changes may often cause
confusion, depression, mood swings, withdrawal, or even thoughts of suicide. To
address these challenges, Two Rivers Psychiatric Hospital has a state-of-the-art
facility for the special needs of senior adults . . . The Renaissance
Programming Designed for Older
Adults
At Two Rivers Psychiatric Hospital, we believe that aging can be a time of
positive intellectual and emotional growth. The Renaissance is a
comprehensive mental health program for adults 55 years of age or older,
offering high-quality treatment in a caring and sensitive environment.
The Renaissance is available 24 hours a day to assist older adults and
their families in dealing with the emotional and psychological problems that may
arise in later years, such as:
• Depression
• Grief and Loss
• Memory Loss
• Anger
• Isolation
• Combative Behavior
• Mood Disorders
• Panic and Anxiety
• Loss of Appetite
• Sleeplessness
If your parent or aged loved one is experiencing emotional difficulties, it is
important to find out if a serious problem exists.
An accurate diagnosis is the key to effective treatment and can prevent years of
needless suffering for elderly patients and their families. The Renaissance
staff will:
• Provide an Accurate Assessment
• Develop an Effective Treatment and After Care Plan
• Restore Optimal Functioning
Other services available for senior adults:
• Partial day program, Monday
through Friday 9am to 3pm. Transportation available
• Evaluations
• Guardianship
• Competency
• Power of Attorney
• Medical and Behavioral Assements including Cognitive and Memory Evaluations
(May be done on an inpatient or outpatient basis, to be determined by the
Medical Director.)
Healthy Aging
As we move into the 21st century, the elderly population is growing faster than
any other age group. Over the next 15 years, one in five Americans will be over
65. In response to this need, Two Rivers Psychiatric Hospital has developed a
comprehensive program in geriatric behavioral health.
Inpatient Treatment
Often the symptoms of medical illness overlap, mask, or mimic symptoms of
depression in the elderly population. The differential diagnosis of depression
and neurological disorders such as dementia, delirium, or stroke is unclear. In
order to diagnosis the underlying causes and reduce symptoms, an inpatient stay
is often necessary. Two Rivers’ Renaissance psychiatric unit has an
interdisciplinary team model, incorporating psychiatric, biopsychosocial,
educational, nursing
milieu, and family-based evaluation and intervention. Psychiatrists,
psychologists, nurses, social workers, and mental health counselors staff the
service.
Admissions and Referrals
Referrals for admission to The Renaissance program may be made 24 hours a
day, seven days a week. Our Assessment and Referral Center is available to
respond promptly to calls and walk-in inquiries. An Assessment and Referral
Counselor will help to identify problems through a no-charge assessment, which
may be scheduled at any time.
This assessment, along with a physician consultation, helps us to match patient
needs to appropriate care within Two Rivers Psychiatric Hospital’s system or
with other community resources. We provide assistance in obtaining effective and
accessible treatment services, as well as consultation regarding financial
options.
